SpeedFusion, explained

SpeedFusion is Peplink's technology for combining several WAN links — Starlink, VSAT, cellular, fibre — into one encrypted tunnel that stays up when any single link drops. Here's how it works, the three ways to run it, and where it fits in what Negu builds.

What it does

Four things SpeedFusion does that a plain router can't

A normal router picks one link at a time. SpeedFusion wraps all of them in a single tunnel between your Peplink router and a hub, and then decides — per packet — how to use them.

Bandwidth bonding

Traffic is split at the packet level across every link in the tunnel and reassembled at the far end — so a 100 Mbps Starlink and two 50 Mbps cellular links behave like one ~200 Mbps connection, not three separate ones.

Hot failover

Because every session already lives inside the tunnel rather than on any one link, a link dropping out doesn't drop the session. Calls, streams and remote sessions carry on over whatever is left.

WAN smoothing

For latency-sensitive traffic — voice, video, remote desktops — packets can be duplicated across links so the fastest copy wins. It trades some bandwidth for a connection that never stutters.

Encrypted end to end

Everything inside the tunnel is encrypted between the router and the hub. Which links it crosses — satellite, cellular, someone else's Wi-Fi — stops mattering to the security of the traffic.

It takes two ends

A SpeedFusion tunnel needs a router and a hub

The router on site does the splitting; the hub on the far side does the reassembling. Which hub you use is the biggest decision in a SpeedFusion design.

On site: a Peplink router

A Peplink SDX, EPX or Balance with every WAN — Starlink, VSAT, cellular, fibre — plugged in.

Far end: a hub

A FusionHub you host, Peplink's shared SpeedFusion Connect, or a managed FusionHub from Negu — dedicated to you, on our private network.

Bonding vs. failover vs. load balancing

Three words that get used interchangeably — and aren't

Plenty of routers advertise “multi-WAN.” Most of them mean load balancing or failover. Only bonding gives one session more than one link.

Self-hosting and Peplink's own SpeedFusion Connect are both legitimate options, depending on what you need. A managed FusionHub service from Negu simply removes the server layer and the speed caps.
